Exploring the Human-AI Frontier: Redefining HR Practices
Just like any other technology, AI too has its own set of pros and cons. It’s the responsibility of HR members to use these resources with a conscious state of mind and respect the ethical considerations associated with the use of AI tech while enjoying an automated and streamlined flow of work. AI can prove advantageous in transforming human resource practices, from recruitment and onboarding to employee management and payroll structures.
Role of AI in Recruitment
Society of Human Resource (SHRM) reports that at least 79% of companies already use some form of AI or automation in their recruitment and hiring processes. The 21st century is a time of online presence and social media. Job portals like LinkedIn, Indeed, etc. have landed people into their dream companies with lucrative packages. Gone are the days, when people had to hover in front of company gates to get a call for an interview. With the right skill and proper metrics, the internet has given people the opportunity to get placed sitting from the comfort of their homes.
With this vision, companies are gradually trying to implement Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in their recruitment activities. With the help of AI-powered recruitment tools, HR leaders make candidate screening more precise and efficient by analyzing resumes, applications, and social media profiles, and identifying candidates with the right set of skills and qualifications for the job. This not only reduces the burden of screening thousands of applications but also speeds up the process of finalizing the candidate’s desirable for the same.
Next, AI can benefit organizations by sending personalized notes to applicants who are not selected for further rounds. Applicants go through a lot of anxiety and pressure while waiting to hear a response from the companies. Through AI we can solve this real problem that not only gives them clarity but also protects the goodwill of the organization.
Referrals are considered one of the important tools when hiring new talents. Co-founder and CEO Jeffrey Zhou shared that Fig Loans leans on employee referrals as part of its recruitment strategy, which AI assists with. He shared:
"It's very important to us that we encourage employee referrals because, in the past, they've proven to offer even higher-quality candidates that stick around longer than traditional hiring processes. We need automation to make referrals more convenient for employees to submit and speed along the process so we can move on those recommendations quickly. With an AI-based system, we're making employee referrals seamless!"
Apart from referrals, employees are hired externally using the skill-based approach, where recruiters hire employees based on the skills demonstrated in aptitude tests followed by personal interviews. This recruitment methodology has been gaining traction and is even more streamlined with the help of AI.
Many organizations moved away from traditional resume screening. Instead, they switched to using AI-powered chatbots to send screening questions and cognitive ability tests to potential candidates.
Role of AI in Onboarding
After Recruitment comes Onboarding which plays an important role in familiarizing the new hires with the objective and motto of the organization. It is a daunting task for both new hires and their managers but AI-powered tools have simplified the routine tasks by providing automated onboarding workflow, customizing the orientation process for each employee, and ensuring each joiner has access to the specific training resources and HR documentation they need.
AI has proved beneficial to HR practitioners in navigating the complexities of this evolving landscape and driving positive organizational change in the new digital age. Thus, AI can prove wonders in streamlining HR work if used in a judicious manner. However, we must not forget about the concerns associated with the same.
